I’m a Registered Dietitian who specializes in helping people make peace with food, exercise, and their bodies, even when weight stigma and health concerns make it hard.

I’ve been interested in eating behaviour and nutrition since my late teens, when I witnessed friends and family members struggling with guilt around food, shame about their weight, dieting, compulsive eating, and pressure to exercise in a way that stripped movement of joy. I soon experienced this struggle myself, when I tried dieting to lose weight, only to feel more confused and unhappy with my eating, exercise, and body image. I sought help through therapy and a Registered Dietitian utilizing a non-diet, Health at Every Size(r) approach based on the Satter Eating Competence Model, and was soon able to re-experience the joy of feeding myself without guilt, moving my body for pleasure and well-being, and existing in a larger body with peace (and sometimes even pride.)

Subsequently, I chose to study nutrition at university and become a Registered Dietitian to understand more about what drives us to eat and maintain our unique body shape and size, how nutrition impacts our health, and how to help people navigate all of this while maintaining a positive relationship with food and their bodies. Since completing my formal education and training, I’ve continued studying and writing about the underlying cultural structures that inform our attitudes and beliefs about nutrition, weight, health, and eating, which provides rich ground for discussion with clients who are curious about the origins of diet culture, and how it came to be so influential in our lives.
